FAQ’s World Legacy Project (WLP)

What do you mean by "personal legacy"?

The dictionary states that legacy is "something from the past, something that is handed down or remains from a previous generation or time." We at the World Legacy Family of Companies understand that our legacy is being created today. Our actions will leave a legacy for our children in terms of environment, economy, education, health and much more. We have choices. We can embrace the ideas and innovations that create a future that is compelling and exciting or we can ignore what we are contributing to and create by default.

To us, "Personal Legacy" is each person’s personal journey through life. Whether you will live it consciously or unconsciously is up to you. Today it is about your contribution to the planet and the planet’s inhabitants. As the world gets smaller because of electronic communication, our personal legacy affects more people. We at World Legacy Project want to encourage and assist everyone to be consciously aware of the Legacy they are living.

Why is your emphasis on evolution verses revolution?

Evolution is "A gradual process in which something changes into a different and usually more complex or better form." Revolution is "A momentous or sweeping change," often a highly disruptive approach. But even more, revolution tends to be "against" something unwanted. We at the World Legacy Family have come to understand something so incredibly important to these times. Quite simply, that what we focus on "expands". As we all understand this more, it helps make sense of all the "wars" we’ve been fighting against, "drugs", violence", etc. ending up with only more of what all these efforts were trying to diminish. We believe that consciously created change which takes all aspects of life into account is the healthiest way to move to a better world.

FAQ’s – WLP Foundation

What is a social entrepreneur?

A social entrepreneur is someone who recognizes a social problem and uses entrepreneurial principles to organize, create, and manage a venture to make social change. Whereas a business entrepreneur typically measures performance in profit and return, a social entrepreneur assesses success in terms of the impact s/he has on society. While social entrepreneurs often work through nonprofits and citizen groups, many work in the private and governmental sectors.

The main aim of a social entrepreneurship as well as social enterprise is to further social and environmental goals. Although social entrepreneurs are often non-profits, this need not be incompatible with making a profit. Social enterprises are for ‘more-than-profit,’ using blended value business models that combine a revenue-generating business with a social-value-generating structure or component.

How can I be a part of the World Legacy Project Foundation?

There are several ways that you can be a part of the Foundation. First, as we move from our developmental phase to Phase I, we will be hiring staff for our sister non-profit programs, our social entrepreneurship program and our Annual Cornerstone Fundraising programs. If you are interested in applying for our job opportunities, please click here.

If you are a non-profit organization, you can apply to be a sister non-profit and benefit from our umbrella fundraising efforts, our sustainability programs and increased exposure on our website. Please click here to apply.

And, of course, you can donate to help us further our programs. Our donation program is a little different than you’ve experienced before. First of all, a percentage of all funds raised by the WLP Foundation automatically goes to support approved sister non profits across the board, secondly if you have a preference on how to direct the "shared" funds, you will have the chance to select them. Your support of the WLP Foundation goes well beyond just benefiting one group. As we are able to bring our programs to more and more entities, we don’t just help facilitate their efforts, but help them learn to become more sustainable, enabling them to do more of what they are passionate about and to demonstrate great stewardship over all the funds they receive. And of course there are always the tax benefits!

I don’t quite understand what you mean by evolving the "giving" model. You say it’s better to give a value for a value than a value for a need. Does that mean I should never help anyone out that is having a problem?

No! We’re simply saying there is a much healthier way to help someone. You see, when you give value (money, time, things) to someone out of their "need", what they learn subconsciously is that for them to receive value they need to give "neediness". Now, this is not the intent, however as we learn more about the nature of how our world works and the energetic principles of the universe, we are beginning to see why so many well intended models are not being as effective as they could be. Back again to what we say, it’s simply time to evolve many of our models. AND THAT is a wonderful place to be. It’s a time of great fun and innovation.

So how do I give then?

The easiest way to demonstrate what we are saying is to give these two examples.

Example 1: Our Founder loves to drive and has driven across the country a number of times. When we asked her about this question of giving for value vs. need, she told us one of her favorite and memorable examples. Often when she has felt inspired, she will offer to take someone on foot to their next destination. One time she was driving from Connecticut to N. California to make it home for Thanksgiving Holiday.

She recalled feeling she should give a ride to a nice young man she saw walking and although she doesn’t remember his name, she does remember the gift he gave her. You see he was a young cook, headed out to Vegas to make his fortune and when she offered to trade his best recipe for the ride to Vegas, he was able to accept with the feeling of pride and that he had value.

As for our Founder, that Paella recipe continues to be a gift/value to her well beyond that drive, whenever she serves it to her family and friends. Which inevitably also reminds her of this young man, gives her a smile even still today and a bonus memory of an amazing rainbow uniting two canyon walls!

Example 2: One of our associates who also knows the incredible paradigm shift this evolved model can be for our world practices giving similarly. One day when he was walking in the mall, a man came up and asked him for a couple of dollars because he needed food and didn’t have money to buy some.

Our associate told him kindly that he would not just give him the couple of dollars because he was looking at a man who was very capable and valuable. He said he would be happy to employ him though. When the man asked what he meant, our associate explained that his mobile phone was almost dead and that he wanted an outlet to plug into and would happily buy his services to locate that outlet.

The man brightened immediately, he wasn’t a beggar in that moment, he was an employed man with a customer. He headed out immediately, located the outlet within minutes and our associate happily paid for his services. The man walked away two gifts actually. He not only had the money, but he was holding his head noticeably higher.

You see, one of the truths that we know with full certainty is that each and every person is valuable. Without exception, everyone has a gift to share with the world and as we move into changing times, enlightening times, we will find that fewer and fewer people feel that they only have "need" to exchange, but instead come to know they are always, valuable beyond measure, become intentional about their personal legacy and realize their place in the global legacy. To us, giving and receiving are equally blessed, in fact it’s the human experience summed up. So, there needs to be both dynamics flowing in cyclical balance for a healthy humanity.

How do I post my own Loving Legacy?

The day is rapidly approaching when you will be able to post to our Loving Legacy Wall. If you would like to notify you when this feature is activated, please click here.

Can I donate in someone else’s name?

Absolutely! We are happy to accept donations as tribute in memorial of someone. Our plans include physical and virtual donation acknowledgement walls and all donations will be publicly acknowledged according to the donor’s wishes.

How do we qualify our Non-Profit for a spotlight in the WLPF?

Our base criteria is that the organization have programs that focus on helping create personal legacies; programs that give people an opportunity to become capable, to stand on their own and an internal sustainability plan. For more detailed information on how to qualify, please click here to apply.

What is required to become a "certified" nonprofit with the WLPF?

The WLPF certification process covers a number of different areas. First, certification attests that the non-profit is dedicated to sustainability. Sustainability focuses on using collected funds in a way that leverages them for the long term health of the entity instead of depletion spending.

Next, a WLPF Certified Non-Profit has personal legacy programs to assist the members of their focus to feel capable and hold their heads held high, as productive members of their community. Programs that offer long term assistance create dependence. Programs that offer short term assistance and training, instruction or guidance on life skills and healthy lives are more beneficial to society in the long run. Of course, there will always be a need for "urgent" assistance which we fully support and we want to see those systems paired with the best follow up for the long term benefit of the recipients.

Lastly, a WLPF Certified Non-Profit can participate in our umbrella fund raising program where we pool resources, talents and endeavors to create fund raising that benefits multiple entities.

What are the benefits to being a WLPF Certified Non-Profit?

The benefits to being a WLPF Certified Non-Profit organization are many. First, you will be viewed as a non-profit with healthy business architecture with a focus on sustainability not depletion spending. Your supporters will see you as a vital link in the chain instead of as a drain. Supporters will be much more enthusiastic about supporting an organization that is using their dollars in such a creative manner.

Next, you will be part of the World Legacy Project Foundation family and able to take advantage of our local pooled resource programs for fund raising as well as purchasing.

And, you will be able to spend more of your time on your core competency and focus and less time on fund raising. That time will translate into more help to your chosen area and isn’t that what everyone signed on for?

We welcome you to submit your non profit for the accredidtion program or if you have additional questions, please contact us.
